Stop Hotlinking of Your Images and Get Free Credit

August 27th, 2008 posted by · No Comments

An issue that many bloggers face is the stealing and hotlinking of their images on other sites. While I don’t mind too much if someone uses an image from my blog, I don’t appreciate it when they link directly to it.

This not only raises my bandwidth usage on the server, but it slows things down for everybody. While looking at my server stats recently, I found that many Blogger.com blogs were direct linking to the images I use within my posts. I considered setting up hotlinking protection in cPanel, but then had another idea. I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could someone watermark all of those images on other sites with my URL? Of course there’s always the option of going back and watermarking all of the images I’ve posted, but that would take hours.

I did a search for a WordPress plugin that fixes this issue and automatically adds a watermark to hotlinked images, while still keeping the original image intact. I came across a post from DailySEOblog.com that provided me with exactly what I was looking for.

If you’re a blogger who wants free promotion by others stealing your images, there isn’t a better plugin than this.
