How to Create Your Own Podcast for WordPress

April 18th, 2008 posted by · 1 Comment

I’ve finally found the time to create my own podcast using my iMac, GarageBand software and a neat little WordPress plugin.

Have a listen below by clicking the “Play Now” link:

PodPress allows any WordPress blogger to turn their blog into an instant podcast publishing platform. It gives you the ability to upload your media files, customize player and distribution options and embed them into your posts for listeners to enjoy. The benefits of having a podcast are huge. For one thing, it gives you more authority as a blogger for your readers to actually hear the voice behind the words. It also allows you to be more creative and branch off into different publishing mediums. Because podcasts are often picked up by many syndications, such as iTunes, the ability for listeners to carry around your content in audio format on their iPod or iPhone is extremely convenient.

How do I create my own podcast?

If you have an Apple computer, open up GarageBand and click “Create New Podcast Episode”. Select either “Male Voice” or “Female Voice” depending on your gender and then hit the big red button to start/stop recording. Add some jingles or background music if you want and then export your recording by going to “Share > Export Song To Disk”. I always export in High Quality MP3 with Compression turned on because it gives you the best sounding audio.

Don’t have an Apple computer? Using Windows, you can use programs such as Sound Recorder or numerous free podcasting applications available for download.
