Is This Blogger iMac Ready?

January 9th, 2008 posted by · 8 Comments

Apple iMacI’ve been considering making the purchase of an iMac in the near future. I spent most of last weekend doing some serious research and finding the answers to many questions I have about Macs. I’ve been looking at Macs for a few years now, but never really got interested in them until recently. The new iMac is just so sleek looking… it would look amazing sitting on my desk. The 20″ seems to be the right fit for me… 24″ would be a bit excessive for my work environment.

The only problem I’m facing before I make the purchase is desk space. I still want to use my PC for business related activities of course, but I need a bigger desk. The way my room is set up here I’m pretty limited for furniture, so I’m not sure how this will all play out. 😛

John Cow got an iMac last year and his setup is something similar to what I’d like to accomplish. Take a look…

Back to the topic at hand… many users feel that a Mac is evil and vice versa with regards to the PC. Before I bring in Justin Long to tell you why Macs are better for some tasks than the PC is, I’ll just tell you myself. I’ve been creating a lot of videos lately focusing around new promotions I’m doing for some other sites I have. Windows Movie Maker makes these promos look a high school video project. Eeek! Not cool at all. I’ve been trying out Final Cut Studio 2 on a friend’s iMac for a few days now and I’m more than impressed. I’ve also been dabbling in Final Cut Server and words can’t describe what a useful piece of software this is. I also took the tour of Mac OS X Leopard and familiarized myself with all its glorious features. I just may be writing my future blog posts on a slim, white keyboard.

I saw one some days ago in an electronic mart here in Austria. I was impressed of the smart design and “simplicity” of the product and now also want one. 😀 I also like the keyboard. If it’s only about smart design, the keyboard, a 22′ flat screen and the desctop on bottom should do … as the keyboard can be attached to any conventional windows engine.

I’ve been using Macs, PCs and Linux boxes for several years. I run WindowsXP on my MacBook Pro using Parallels. I prefer the Mac OS (Unix), but realize that I must run Windows in order to use of the applications (e.g., Captivate) which don’t run on the Mac OS.

I’m headed up to San Francisco next week to attend MacWorld. I suggest you wait on your purchase until after MacWorld.

Buzzbop: You’re the second person to recommend to me to wait until after Macworld to make a purchase. I think I’ll wait then. 😎

Do you know of any rumors circulating about iMac hardware improvements etc?

I learned on the Apple IIC and then graduated to the Mac LCII. Our business had to be run on the PC and now I have had it with the PC.

My next laptop will be a Mac, already have the wife’s blessing. Her cousin has one and it is awesome.

    You will love it.

We have an old iMac, a new (bought it refurbished from Apple.com) iMac, and a PC in our home office. I always use the new iMac for my web/graphics/movies, etc. Our new iMac also has Windows & Office installed, although I never really like hearing that Windows startup sound coming from my pretty Mac! I love how it knows what to do when I add a peripheral, and I love iMovie/iDVD for home video editing, etc. Given that the new Macs run Windows, you don’t even have to worry about whether a program is available for Mac. 🙂
