Do You Suffer from Blog Comment Abuse?

November 22nd, 2007 posted by · 2 Comments

I was e-mailed this video from a friend of mine. It discusses how bloggers can sometimes get abused by the content left in their comments. While I encourage free speech of my visitors and invite them to share their opinion on my posts, there are some times when I need to delete a few comments. I rarely delete comments, but when I do it’s not because I don’t agree with what was said, but because the text may be too vulgar and inappropriate for others to read. After all, this is a family friendly blog.

Of course with every blog, there will always be those readers that you offend. The majority of those who leave a nasty comment tend to respond fairly quickly after reading your post. Most of the time their comments have not been thought through long enough and they post the first thing on their mind while in a state of anger. Even the nice bloggers are subject to abuse, not to mention female and minority bloggers.

Watch the video and then take the web poll question.

Are you using a spam plugin for your blog to help prevent it?
